Mind Matters

with Shawna Sielert, LPC

Much of our time spent on the internet is on social media. This means daily, if not hourly, exposure to hundreds of images of other people that are posed in the best lighting, edited to perfection, or even AI-generated.

Particularly for younger generations, this constant exposure can take a toll on body image. Over time, it can affect our perception of what people really look like, add pressure to change how we look, or even lead to disordered eating. To have a healthy relationship with our bodies, it’s key to actively remind ourselves and recognize that photos are altered.
