Mind Matters

with Shawna Sielert, LPC

The way our minds work is core to the human experience — so it’s no wonder that mental health has been portrayed and dissected in our movies, TV shows and entertainment since the very beginning.

Stories of mental illness inspiring romantic connection, giving life meaning, or stoking fear in compelling characters get us talking. That’s a great thing. But we also have to remember when fiction is fiction, and that a character on screen is rarely an accurate representation of those facing mental illness in real life. Media should never be our basis for self-diagnosis.

Let’s talk mental health in the media with Lucet’s Shawna Sielert (Licensed Professional Counselor).
